What is GDPR and how will it affect you ?

This month we will be updating our Privacy Notice in preparation for the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) being implemented on May the 25th. So what is GDPR and how will it affect you ?

GDPR is designed to bring up to speed the regulations on how personal data is handled in the latest digital era. The regulations primary aim is to give citizens control over their personal data and to ensure that when companies use that personal data, it is used in a lawful, fair and transparent manner.

Personal data is required by companies to perform simple tasks like selling you a product or service. An eCommerce company like ourselves would require personal data such as your name and address to deliver an order and this is typically collected from you when you place your order online.

In accordance with GDPR, companies such as ourselves now need to explain the legal basis on which we have collected your personal data, when we collected it, what we collected, how and why we use the personal data and how we protect it. If we shared the personal data with third parties, we have to explain under what legal basis and ensure there is proper security in place, so that information is not mis-used.

As a consumer you have rights to access your personal information held by a company. You also have the right to correct the information, withdraw any consent to use it or even have your personal data deleted.

For companies like ourselves, we embrace the new regulations as we firmly believe the legislation will help to build a better more trusting relationship that is completely transparent. Our Privacy Notice explains in simple and clear language exactly what we do with your personal data.
